What exactly is FSC?
FSC stands for Forest Stewardship Council®. This international organisation is committed to responsible forest management worldwide. Cardboard or paper with an FSC label means: the wood or fibres it contains come from forests that are managed in an environmentally, socially and economically responsible manner.
In other words: trees are cut down with respect for nature, people and animals - AND new trees are planted back. 🌱
The three FSC labels: which one will you choose?
FSC is not just one logo. There are three variants, and each tells something different about the origin of the material:
1. FSC 100%
All fibres come from FSC-certified forests. The purest form of responsible sourcing.
2. FSC Mix
Made from a mix of FSC-certified wood, controlled wood and/or recycled material. A widely used, accessible option.
3. FSC Recycled
100% sourced from recycled material. Good for brands that value circularity.

FSC or recycled board: which is better?
Good question - and the answer is: it depends. Do you want to maximise circularity? Then FSC Recycled is a good choice. Do you want to use fresh material, but responsibly? Then FSC 100% or FSC Mix is suitable.
Sometimes a combination is strongest: FSC-certified cardboard with part recycled material. So you get the best of both worlds.
